Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1, episode 5 brings us far more questions than answers. The two timelines do not touch on the events from episode 4, but they do bring up events from episode 3.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1, episode 5.

We continue the story in two timelines, bringing more potential victims. After all, it’s just too obvious that Doug is Quiche at this point, although the new episode doesn’t even touch on that right now.

Instead, we move back to Catherine and Tucker as the main storyline for the episode, which shows us just how hard it is to move on after infidelity. Tucker may think that Catherine is his ride or die, but he doesn’t feel like he is hers just yet. I don’t think I could play the Marriage Police after infidelity.

Tucker has hidden cameras up in Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1, episode 5

If it wasn’t for Catherine burning her bacon-covered dates, she wouldn’t have found out that her husband had set up hidden cameras in the new smoke detectors. When she hit the smoke detector off the ceiling, the camera came flying out. Of course, she decided to confront Tucker about it, and he made it clear that he doesn’t trust her.

I hate when the spouse who cheated says “we need to get past this.” Tucker is right in his assumption that Catherine only told the truth because what she had with Gary wasn’t real after all. If Gary had only been with Catherine, then their affair would have continued. Tucker needs to know that he isn’t the backup option, and that means cameras.

Catherine decides that she does want to make her marriage work. She wants to prove that she wants Tucker, and so she decides to dress up for him in front of the cameras.

Things take a turn when Catherine sees Gary in the store. He is beaten and has a missing tooth. Well, it’s the tooth that is going to come up, as when Catherine mentions this to Tucker, he mentions how Gary deserves to be missing teeth. Catherine never mentioned that, so Tucker comes clean. He had some guys rough Gary up — and there are probably many husbands in town who would have wanted to do the same. The fact that Gary hasn’t gone to the cops suggests that he has something to hide, though.

Brett puts himself back on the dating apps in Grosse Pointe Garden Society

Meanwhile, Brett decides that it’s time to date again. It’s not easy, but he does eventually find someone he connects with. When she says that she lied on her profile, he thinks the worst. However, it turns out that she’s a single mom, and her ex dropped the ball on a field trip school lunch. Brett can help there.

As Alice realizes that Brett is dating again, she gets her back up. It’s clear that she wants him but she doesn’t want him at the same time. It’s one of those cases where either she has him or nobody has him, and Doug and the new girl can see that.

However, Brett rubs me the wrong way with a line that he says to Alice. She constantly comes to him when she has marital problems. That’s what best friends are for, right? Well, Brett wants to know what he gets out of it. Well, doesn’t he get the same thing? This is the problem with men and women being best friends. There is usually the belief on one side (usually the man’s but not always) that the friendship will lead to something romantic. When it doesn’t, the person who wanted the romantic relationship gets angry. Brett is not a nice guy!

I’m back to routing for Doug to succeed in life at this point. I thought Doug was a bit of an AH at first, but he’s a man who has a dream and thought his wife was on the same page as him. As he’s realized that’s not the case, he needs to reassess his marriage.

I will say that Doug taking Alice to see some dogs that are available to get tells me that Doug did not kill Molly. Again, it’s too obvious, and he wouldn’t willingly take her for a new dog — and then tell her only when she’s ready for it!

Birdie and Joel finally kiss

Bridie and Joel have been getting closer over the last few episodes. We know in six months they are hooking up, and it’s finally time to see how that happens. It all comes down to Ford and college.

Ford tells Birdie not to give him money; that their relationship is affecting his parents’ relationship. Then he tells Joel that Birdie isn’t giving him the money to go to college. Joel decides to confront Birdie about that, and the two realize that they are being played by Ford. Their argument leads to a kiss, which isn’t surprising at all considering the chemistry between them.

Birdie goes to see one of her ex-husbands to get his advice on things. He shares that Birdie needs to do what’s right for Ford. He may not want the money, but he needs it, and they deserve a relationship. It’s actually quite sweet to see the two exes interact. For all their faults, there is clearly a level of understanding between them. I would love to see more of this.

Birdie decides to turn to Ford’s mom instead. As much as the woman doesn’t like Birdie, the two want the same thing for Ford. He’s smart and deserves to go to college. Now it’s time for them to figure out how to make that work together.

More clues to who Quiche is in Grosse Pointe Garden Society

In the Six Months Later timeline, we see the group of murderers discuss how to get Quiche to the gardens to bury them. Catherine needs to drive Quiche’s car there, and Birdie needs to go with her so that Catherine can say she’s driving a drunk friend home if they get pulled over. What they didn’t expect was to need to get gas, and they don’t have money.

Birdie looks through the glove compartment, which seems to have some golf tees — correct me if I’m wrong by what I thought I saw. In the trunk of the car, they find some pills, which has the name on, but we can’t see that name. We do later see in the present day that Gary had a similar bottle of pills, so could Quich be Gary? Does Gary play golf? It would certainly explain why nobody misses Quiche, and why none of them care about the actual victim in all of this.

Catherine goes to the gas station with the pills to sell them for half a tank of gas. The shop assistant takes the pills, but he also wants the bracelet Catherine is wearing. This is where they could end up getting caught out, as that bracelet is something from Tucker. There’s a whole engraving on the inside. Things are going to get worse before they get better.
