High Potential continues to highlight Morgan's lack of common sense (and I love it)

Someone can have all the intelligence in the world but no common sense.

During High Potential season 2, episode 3, Morgan showed that she has absolutely no common sense when it comes to timing. This is one of the most relatable things about someone with a high intelligence level.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from High Potential season 2, episode 3.

Ava made it clear during High Potential season 2, episode 3 that she wanted to know more about where the case was going with her dad. Soto had to have some more information, right?

Well, it wasn’t Soto with the information. Instead, Morgan got the information during High Potential season 2, episode 2, and initially, she didn’t want to share it with Ava. What could sharing Arthur’s business card and statement do?

Morgan tells Ava at the wrong time in High Potential

In the end, Karadec convinces Morgan to tell Ava the details. Of course, there is a time and place for everything, and Morgan chooses the worst time to do it. She gets Ava and Elliot to school early, and she decides that this is the perfect time to tell Ava that Roman has been just one state away and that Arthur has some information about him.

What did Morgan think Ava was going to do? This is a 15-year-old girl who is struggling to deal with her dad just leaving when she was a baby. She has long believed that her dad abandoned her, and now she gets information that supports that theory. Did Morgan really think that she would go to school after that?

Well, clearly she did, because she’s shocked when she learns that Ava is being arrested. She skipped school to destroy one of Roman’s murals.

Morgan’s lack of common sense is perfect

While it’s frustrating to see someone with such high intelligence act so dumb, it’s relatable and realistic. If you know anyone with high intelligence, you’ll know that common sense isn’t usually their forte. They don’t always understand social situations, and they don’t always think about how people could react to certain information.

We continue to get a humanizing element to Morgan in High Potential. It’s a flaw that makes her less of a Mary Sue and more of someone that you would just groan at whenever something like this happened in real life.

While there is an element of High Potential with Karadec that I think needs to come to an end, showing Morgan with little common sense at times is something the series needs to keep. We need to see all of her flaws, but we also need to see her learning from them. Morgan admitted that she doesn’t always think about timing, and it’s something that we could see her work on to show that she wants to do some personal growth.

High Potential airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
