As we inch closer to High Potential season 2 coming back, we can’t help but look at what’s in store. This is a series based on a French show called HPI, and many of the characters are very similar. Is it possible that the French version tells us how the Roman storyline will play out?

In the High Potential series premiere, we learned that Roman disappeared 15 years earlier. He went out to get diapers and never came backa, and of course, he’s been viewed as a deadbeat dad since then. However, Morgan knows he wouldn’t just skip out on Ava, so she asked Soto to investigate it.

Soto learned that Roman didn’t just leave. Something happened, and now the mystery is what that is. Well, Karadec seems to have an idea as to where Roman is, but will this mean following the same storyline as the French version?

What happened to Romain in HPI?

In the French version of High Potential, Romain left before his daughter was born. He faked his death after falling for a scam and having a bunch of dangerous people on his tail. After that, he moved to England, where he started a new life.

We learn that he married and had a family while in England. As Morgane finds him, she questions why he left her and their daughter behind, and he pretty much made it clear that he couldn’t deal with her crazy mind anymore. He wanted the simpler life, and that’s what he got.

Would High Potential follow the same storyline?

Many will admit that Romain’s storyline in HPI was a little disappointing. Romain ended up being the deadbeat that he was perceived as by up and leaving. Sure, initially, he acted to protect Morgane, but in the end, he chose to stay away and didn’t even care enough about the family he was starting to even check in on them.

High Potential season 2 following the same storyline would be a huge mistake. There’s already a real issue with Black men leaving their children behind and not stepping up when times are hard. The only way to have any empathy for Roman in High Potential is for him to be forced to leave, and that’s certainly the way the show seems to be setting things up.

The American version of the series has already changed the story a little. In the French version, Morgane was still pregnant with her child, but in the U.S. version, Ava had been born and Roman got to know her. Adding this connection here would make it even worse for him to just skip town and start a family elsewhere.

It’s still likely that Roman left to protect Morgan and Ava. Will he return after they find him, or will something happen that forces him not to be able to return?

High Potential season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 10/9c on ABC.
