One of High Potential's strengths is its diverse and talented cast. Comedy roots run strong through this ensemble, including Kaitlin Olson, who plays Morgan Gillory, as well as Judy Reyes, who plays Captain Selena Soto. As you may recall, Soto offered Morgan a job as a consultant after witnessing her impressive memory and deductive skills. It was a leap of faith for both women.
As a single mom, Morgan welcomed the bump in pay and the chance to make a difference. Sure, her approach is chaotic compared to her straight-laced partner, Detective Adam Karadec. Of course, that is all part of her charm. And their clashing work styles only serve to heighten the chemistry between Morgan and Karadec.
Of course, there is a tight bond between High Potential's Captain Soto and Morgan, too. One of the conditions that Morgan gave when taking the job was that her new boss investigate the disappearance of Roman, her first husband. Morgan always felt like he wouldn't have abandoned his family. So, Soto continued to look into Roman's disappearance during season 1. She made a promise to Morgan, and Soto keeps her word.

What can we expect for Captain Soto in High Potential season 2?
Viewers don't know very much about Captain Soto yet. Thankfully, it sounds as if that is about to change. TV Insider reported that we will be delving a bit deeper into Soto's personal life, as well as her relationship with her prized genius-level consultant. It's about time! As the journey to find Roman unfolds, the duo will grow closer. As for Soto's personal life?
“We get to learn more about her, her family, where she comes from, how she’s strong, and where she’s vulnerable, and that brings her not only her and [Morgan] closer, but the rest of the cast [as well]."
While we know that Roman was mixed up with something sketchy and dangerous, we don't know why he never returned. However, we do know that he is still alive. That opens the door to many possibilities. He could be staying far away from his family in order to keep them out of harm's way. Or, he could be held prisoner somewhere and unable to make his way back to Morgan and his daughter, Ava.
Hopefully, as season 2 of High Potential unfolds, we will learn more about Roman's circumstances and whereabouts. And as Soto and Morgan continue to follow Roman's trail, we will most likely watch their relationship grow. I could see Morgan popping over to Soto's home as their bond deepens,
giving us a welcome glimpse of Soto's home life. While that may be an invasion of privacy, when has that ever stopped Morgan?
High Potential season 2 will return on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 10/9c on ABC.
