When we hear that TV shows are on the move when they return from a break, it’s usually a bad thing. However, when it comes to High Potential season 2’s return in January, there is some excellent news.
High Potential season 2 is currently on a break. It’s a lengthy winter break, with ABC opting to make this one of the first shows to premiere in fall 2025. Early returns mean earlier fall finales, and that means longer breaks, as ABC will want to keep the show off the air throughout the holiday period.
In some great news, High Potential is back on Tuesday, Jan. 6. It’s the timeslot that will change.

High Potential will get an earlier timeslot on Tuesdays
In the fall, the Kaitlin Olson series aired in the last timeslot on Tuesday nights, straight after two-hour episodes of Dancing With the Stars. While this can be a tricky timeslot, ABC did the right thing with High Potential, as it is a popular series both in terms of linear ratings and delayed ratings. Out of all the shows that could withstand the timeslot in the fall, it was always going to be this one.
However, in the new year, the show is on the move. Like during the first season, High Potential will move to the slightly earlier time of 9 p.m. ET/PT on Tuesdays, placing it in between new episodes of Will Trent and The Rookie.
Yes, ABC is opting for a night of quirky crime dramas when January starts up. In some exciting news, it won’t go up against NCIS night at first. CBS is holding back all of its 2026 returns to February, after the Olympics. ABC looks like its opting for a run through the Olympics on Tuesdays, which is a questionable move. But, again, if any shows can hold up against the Olympics, it’s going to be the Tuesday quirky crime dramedies.

High Potential moving timeslot is a good thing
Yes, a lot of shows moving timeslots will bring bad news, but for High Potential, it’s great. The slightly earlier timeslot means more people are likely to tune in live. This helps to boost the ratings.
Plus, it’s not like fans of the series aren’t used to it. During the first season, the series moved to the earlier timeslot to sandwich between Will Trent and The Rookie until its season 1 finale. It picked up in the ratings then, so it’s clear that ABC did the right thing. Season 2 will have more episodes, as well, which makes it even better for a straight run through the winter and early spring.
This is one move we’re not worried about. In fact, we’re looking forward to it.
High Potential season 2 will air on Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC when it returns on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
