CBS is looking to create more franchise, and it makes sense that The Equalizer is one of the shows to get a franchise. While the fate of the Queen Latifah series is still on the bubble, eyes are now on the backdoor pilot for the potential spin-off.
The Equalizer season 5, episode 16 will bring us the story that introduces the two leads for this potential spin-off. There is no guarantee of that happening just yet, but there is a good chance of it. It’s all going to depend on how the backdoor pilot performs, and that means we need to watch live as much as possible.

What to expect in The Equalizer spin-off backdoor pilot
The episode is titled “Sins of the Father,” and it features Samantha Reed, who turns to Robyn McCall for help. Her father always said that if she was ever in trouble to turn to McCall, and that’s what she is doing. Of course, McCall doesn’t take to strangers nicely at first, and we see that meeting in the promo.
Samantha’s father is ex-CIA, just like McCall. Elijah has been taken by someone, and it’s up to McCall and her team to find out where he is and how to get her out. Of course, this is sure to lead to some family secrets coming out, which leads us into the spin-off series.
Take a look at the promo and synopsis for The Equalizer season 5, episode 16:
"McCall is contacted by Samantha Reed, whose father, ex-CIA agent Elijah Reed, is missing; while Samantha joins forces with the Equalizer team to track down the agency legend, she learns more about her family's past in the Dominican Republic."
The Equalizer airs on Sundays at 10/9c on CBS.
