Justina Machado is joining the cast of Matlock season 2 in a recurring role, and it’s a role that could change everything for Matty, Senior, and many others. After all, the role that she has is one with a lot of secrets.

Machado will play Senior’s fourth ex-wife, Eva. She runs the Miami partnership, which is likely something that she gained out of the divorce from Senior, and she’s described as the reason Senior has now sworn off marriage. Well, swearing off marriage is likely a good thing, since it’s much harder to prevent an ex-wife from talking.

Eva likely knows all about Wellbrexa in Matlock season 2

One thing is certain: Eva likely knows a lot about Wellbrexa. She’ll even potentially know about the study. While this was around 10 years ago, it’s something that Julian was old enough to be complicit in. The idea of Senior being married to Eva around that time is plausible, and they could have divorced shortly after.

In fact, Eva may have been involved in the case that led to the Wellbrexa study being removed. She may have even threatened to talk if she didn’t get her own way in the divorce, leading to running the Miami firm. With all of this, it wouldn’t be that surprising that Senior would decide never to get married again, since that would have cost him his firm and his freedom had it all got out.

Well, this is all information that Eva has been sitting on for some time. Is it time to blow the whistle?

Matty could pull on Eva’s heartstrings

Eva is likely a smart and capable woman to get to where she is. However, being smart and capable doesn’t mean she is devoid of emotion and feeling. Just look at Olympia, who is a kind and loving mother but also a great lawyer.

While Olympia is angry that Matty hid so much in her deceit, she also understood where Matty was coming from. She could see that Matty was a mother who needed answers, and that led to the two of them working together. At the same time, Olympia wanted her own answers, which helped to quickly further the story along.

With Eva, more time would be needed, but Matty could end up pulling on Eva’s heartstrings. Since we know that Olympia wants to protect Julian thanks to the Matlock season 2 premiere synopsis, we could also see Olympia turn to Eva for some help. Maybe she wants to know if there is a way to implicate Senior in everything.

Eva really is the biggest threat to Senior we’ve had since the show started. Now it’s all about how Matlock season 2 uses her to their full advantage.

Matlock season 2 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT and then moves to Thursdays at 9/8c on CBS.
