We start off this post with some bad but not entirely unexpected news. Elsbeth will not air a new episode tonight, Thursday, Dec. 26. The show is on a short break, and we’ll need to wait until 2025 for new episodes to return.
The break shouldn’t be surprising considering the time of year. It’s Christmas and we’re heading into the New Year celebrations, and this means a break for all network TV. The linear ratings take a hit, and the networks don’t want to put their shows at risk. It’s all about the holiday programming instead.
This does mean some bad news for us. CBS won’t even bring us a rerun of Elsbeth tonight. We had a two-hour block of Ghosts reruns and then CBS will end the night with a Matlock rerun.
When will Elsbeth return with new episodes?
There is some good news in that we know when Elsbeth is back. The series will return on Thursday, Jan. 30. Yes, it is a bit of a wait, but it’s around the same length as many other broadcast shows. NBC and ABC just put a lot of their shows on a break around Thanksgiving week.
The episode will follow new episodes of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Ghosts, and Matlock. That means Elsbeth will continue to air at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Thursday nights.
What to expect when Elsbeth returns
There is a synopsis for the new episode. A young man is found dead after visiting a holistic center. Elsbeth realizes that there is something going on with the charismatic owner, and she decides to figure out why this person would want to kill.
We also have teases of bigger storylines to come. When the series first started, we learned that Elsbeth was sent to New York to find out if Wagner was a dirty cop. It was always clear there was something else going on, and we may find out why Elsbeth was fine leaving Chicago behind.
Elsbeth returns on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up on the series on Paramount+.
