Things aren’t easy for those in law enforcement. We see it in a lot of shows, and not just FBI: Most Wanted, that marriages can often end up in divorce.

Barnes and Charlotte have always had a rocky marriage since the start of the series. We’ve seen that Charlotte has felt like second fiddle to Barnes’s work, and it wasn’t easy to encourage Barnes to take some parental leave after the birth of their most recent child.

Charlotte has had enough. The March 26 episodes of FBI: Most Wanted showed us that the two are in marriage counselling, but it’s not going well. Barnes left the session due to a work call, making it clear that she will always put work first.

Can Barnes see the error of her ways in FBI: Most Wanted?

Granted, it’s not easy. Once you get a call, you get a call. The criminals don’t work on other people’s schedules. However, the marriage counselling should have been treated like a regular medical appointment. If Barnes was at the doctor’s office for something or if she was in the dentist’s chair, she wouldn’t have likely looked at her phone. She would have waited for the appointment to be over.

That’s something she needed to do here. Let’s say that the hour-long appointment had only just started. Barnes could have arguably left her team to deal with the initial case and then caught up an hour later. And it didn’t sound like the session had only just started, which meant there wouldn’t have been an hour delay.

Barnes is a workaholic, and she’s unwilling to accept that. It’s going to be the cause of the death of her marriage if she doesn’t start taking the problems seriously. She had some good advice to Remy about connecting with his nephew over something they both have in common. Now it’s time for her to find something she has in common with Charlotte again and really connect again.

Barnes would be able to take some time off. The question is whether her marriage is important enough to her. Right now, she’s showing Charlotte that her wife isn’t a priority to her.

Marriages with law enforcement can work. The couples just know that time together is just as important as their careers. It’s okay if her marriage isn’t that important to Barnes, but she needs to be honest with Charlotte now about it. Allow Charlotte to move on and focus on co-parenting if that’s the case.
