There was one thing we knew to expect in the Chicago PD Season 11 finale. It was all about Upton’s exit.

Since the start of the season, we knew that Hailey Upton would leave Intelligence. The question was how that would happen, but there were signs of a shift in her character as so much of the past came up. Would those shifts lead to her leaving Intelligence?

There was also the chance that she would end up dying in an attempt to save Voight. Voight is like a father to her, so of course, she was going to chase after him when she found out he was taken by the serial killer. Would the serial killer get her, too?

Here’s how Hailey Upton left Intelligence in the Chicago PD Season 11 finale

Upton struggled when she learned Voight had been taken. She knew what it meant. Voight would be stabbed and left to bleed out slowly.

It wouldn’t be alone, though. The serial killer would want someone Voight loved, and that became Upton.

She did end up getting to Voight in time and managed to save him. Voight ended up killing the killer, giving Voight and Upton a chance to have a heart to heart. After all Upton wanted to understand why Voight had told her that a father wouldn’t want this.

Voight was worried that he was bad for Upton, but she made it clear that she came this way. She became a cop to be the savior. This was the point she realized that she needed out of the life. She needed to stop letting herself be affected by her childhood.

Upton wasn’t really sure what she wanted, though. Voight knew she did but she was too afraid to voice it. “What if I don’t deserve more?” Upton worried, and there was a beautiful moment of Voight making it clear Upton does deserve more. And she does. This season has been about focusing on how her childhood created what he ahs become, and it’s time to make some changes.

What is that more? We saw her go through a variety of federal websites and then jump into a cab. It’s not 100% clear what she chose, but she is following that calling. It’s time for more.
