Could Jason Gideon return in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2?
There are a few characters we would love to see return in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2. One that is on the mind of many is Jason Gideon. It’s difficult but not impossible for Mandy Patinkin’s character to return.
The questions of Gideon coming back into the story arose when Felicity Huffman was cast as Dr. Jill Gideon, Jason’s ex-wife. The only thing we really know about Jill is that she and Jason were estranged for a long time because of his love for his job. We don’t know what happened in between Jason resigning and then his death.
Jill’s introduction into the series offers us a chance to find something out. We can see if they did end up talking to each other, and we’ll get to find out how she feels after her ex-husband’s death.
How Jason Gideon could return in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2
There’s no doubt that it would be impossible to bring Gideon in to help the team. Patinkin’s character was killed off during the 10th season of the series. It opened the door for a little more about how Gideon and Rossi were friends and the difficult relationship they did have. We got to see Rossi solve the murder for his fallen friend.
During that episode, Ben Savage stepped into the role as a younger Gideon. Patinkin didn’t want to come back to the show.
The only way we could see Gideon come back is through the use of visions or flashbacks. The truth is, the show probably won’t go this route. Jill coming into the show is a chance to expand Rossi’s personal development, I think. We get to see the difficult relationship Jill and Rossi have, and we get to see what she really thinks of the BAU
Mandy Patinkin has shown no signs of being interesting in reprising his role as Gideon. With only 10 episodes in the season, it doesn’t make sense to include flashbacks and visions unless they really connect to the storyline. Jill coming in isn’t about Gideon but about a conspiracy going on that the BAU is trying to solve.
Criminal Minds: Evolution is available to stream on Paramount+.
