Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 has a premiere date (and it's not a split season!)

When Criminal Minds: Evolution first premiered, we had a split season to work in a winter break. The second season won't have that same treatment. Here's what we know about the premiere.

We are certainly more than ready to watch Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2. The good news is the premiere date is here, and we don’t have to wait as long as we feared.

Filming only started on the series back in January of this year due to the strike action last summer. That had us worried that we would need to wait until the fall for the new episodes, which would be two years since the first season.

Paramount+ isn’t making us wait that long. Instead, we only need to wait until the summer. In some even better news, we’re not getting a split season.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 premiere date

The first two episodes will arrive at once on Thursday, June 6 on Paramount+. After that, the episodes will release weekly. A show like this needs a weekly release. We need time to take everything in, especially considering there is a serialized element to the story following on from the events of the first season.

The first season of the Criminal Minds revival saw a break at the midseason point. This was partly linked to the way the original series had a midseason break, and partly due to the fact that with the Thanksgiving release, it meant some Christmas release dates and that could have spelled trouble for the show. Rather than put it at risk, Paramount+ opted for a midseason break.

That’s not going to be the case this time. All 10 episodes will be released throughout the summer. It puts the finale date as Thursday, Aug. 1.

What to expect in Criminal Minds Season 17

While this is the second season of the revival, a lot of fans view this as just a continuation of the OG series. After all, the majority of the Season 15 cast did return.

The second season picks up with the search for the mysterious group known as Gold Star. Elias Voit is now in custody, and the BAU will need to find out what he knows to stop Gold Star. Of course, Voit isn’t going to just give up the information freely. He wants something from the BAU, and that’s clear when he is able to get transferred to federal custody in the BAU’s backyard.

In the search, the BAU will turn to someone connected to a past character. Felicity Huffman is joining the series as Dr. Jill Gideon, the ex-wife of one Agent Jason Gideon. Jill doesn’t initially want to help the BAU, but in the end, her need to keep people safe will win.
