Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 6 was slightly on the quieter side compared to the previous one, giving us a chance to mourn the loss of Ben. However, it opened up more about the silo and events that happened in the past.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 6

The episode opened for Layton alone on a cold floor. He was quickly attacked by a bunch of soldiers all covered in chemical burn marks. What happened? Well, we didn’t really get to find out just yet. It’s clear that these marks are similar to those we’ve seen on members of the Animal Squad.

Was this the first round of testing? We know Milius is a fan of human testing, so putting people in the basement to test on them would certainly be something he’d do. For now, it’s clear that these soldiers have become defeated about the situation.

Could Layton save the soldiers in Snowpiercer?

While Layton was initially attacked, the leader of the soldiers eventually came round to him. She offered for him to come to feast with them, as that’s what happens the night of a sample collection. Layton refused, though. He needs to find a way out.

When Wilford joins them, Layton’s focus goes onto killing him. This doesn’t quite work out, though, and it’s clear that that’s because Wilford will be the one to help them figure out a way out.

Layton wants the soldiers to join them, but it’s clear they’re defeated. It’s been three years for them down there. They’re at a point where they’ve likely tried ways out only to end up failing at every turn. They’re constantly being forced to fight for food, and they’re having blood taken from them on a regular basis.

Of course, Layton knows what it’s like to be forced to the tail of somewhere. He was a Tailie. Things are a little more dire for the soldiers, though, especially considering their chemical burns. What’s to say other parts of their bodies haven’t been affected in a similar way to the Animal Squad?

With Alex getting to the basement at the end of the episode, maybe the soldier will realize that there is a way out. However, Layton doesn’t know them well enough to push for them to fight for freedom. He has his own mission to get Liana and get back to New Eden, so there are chances that he’ll remain selfish and not try to get them out.
