We are getting ready for fall premieres to kick off. That usually happens in September, and it will for many broadcast shows in 2024. The bad news is NCIS: Origins will not get a premiere in September 2024.
Things have been a little hit and miss in recent years. Between the pandemic and the strike action of last year, some shows have been pushed back to the midseason more than we would like. September hasn’t been the strong premiere month of the past.
Most networks are looking to change that. NBC and ABC are ready to bring shows back in the fall. CBS is not. NCIS: Origins will not premiere until Monday, Oct. 14.
Why isn’t NCIS: Origins premiering in September?
It’s not clear why CBS has opted to push the premiere dates back to October. I would like to say that it is strategic, but the strategy makes little sense. It’s not like the episode count for the season is less than normal based on various reports.
However, we have to wait. NCIS: Origins will premiere with a two-hour premiere on Monday, Oct. 14. The first episode will air at 9 p.m. ET/PT. After this, the show will move to the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.
What to expect in NCIS: Origins
The series is set in the 1990s. Shannon and Kelly have been murdered, and Gibbs is a changed man. He decides to join NCIS, and he ends up becoming a member of Mike Franks’s team. This is going to change everything for him, as he figures out what type of man he wants to be after the murders of his wife and daughter.
There are a few characters from NCIS we’ll get to see. As well as Mike Franks, we’ll meet a younger version of Gibbs’s father. NCIS fans will remember that Gibbs and his dad didn’t speak for years after the deaths of Kelly and Shannon. The show will honor that canon, but we’ll need to wait to see how that happens.
Other than that, very little is known about this prequel series.
NCIS: Origins premieres on Monday, Oct. 14 at 9/8c on CBS.
