A new episode of FBI isn't on tonight, but we have an idea of when the show will return

FBI Season 6 has come to an end, and that means there isn't a new episode on tonight, Tuesday, May 28. When will we get to watch new episodes live?

“Ring of Fire” – The Somalian terrorist group behind the death of Agent Hobbs resurfaces, sending the team on a chase to take them down for good, on the sixth season finale of the CBS Original series FBI, Tuesday, May 21 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). It’s Tuesday night, and that should mean we’re tuning in for new episodes of the FBI shows on CBS. There is some bad news tonight, Tuesday, May 28. There isn’t a new episode on.

The FBI Season 6 finale aired last week. It was a big episode, with Tiffany making a decision that could have costed her career. Fortunately, OA found the gun Tiffany said Hakim had on him. Will it affect anything moving forward? That’s not clear just yet.

The good news is there will be another season of the series. CBS renewed FBI for three seasons, so we know we will get new episodes until the 2026–2027 TV season. Now we just need to know when the seventh season will premiere.

When can we expect FBI Season 7 on CBS?

We don’t have to wait too long. CBS announced its fall 2024 schedule, and FBI is on the list. It will continue to kick off a Tuesday night of FBI drama, with episodes of the two spin-off shows airing afterward.

When will that premiere be? That part we don’t have details on. The premiere dates will be set in June or July, as usual. This allows some of the writing to be done and pre-production work to be started.

FBI is getting a new showrunner

There are some updates on things behind the scenes for the series. Mike Weiss is taking over showrunning duties on the series for the seventh season, according to Deadline. He is no stranger to the Dick Wolf franchise as he was the showrunner for Chicago PD for Seasons 3 and 4. They are arguably two of the strongest seasons of that series, so it is exciting to see what he’ll be able to bring to FBI.

We will see less of some characters, though. As a way to cut down on costs, many shows are reducing the appearances of main characters. That means some of our favorites will be missing from episodes here and there. You can watch the One Chicago or Law & Order shows to get an idea of what that is like.
