The Irrational finds Alec's dad in The Good Fight vet

As with any show, we need to learn more about the personal lives of the characters in The Irrational. That means meeting the parents, and we’ll do that in Season 2.

Alec and Kylie’s family hasn’t been explored too much in the first season of The Irrational. That first season was heavily focused on Alec remembering the past. He spent time trying to remember what happened to him in the bombing that he was the sole survivor of. It led to a twisty storyline, and while Alec doesn’t remember everything, it’s enough to know that he has helped stop the man responsible for it from being a threat to others.

Now it’s time for a new mystery. This one involves Alec’s love interest, Rose, so it’s not surprising to hear that Alec’s dad is going to show up.

Ron Canada will play Eli Mercer in The Irrational Season 2

The Good Fight and Jack Ryan star Ron Canada will take on the role of Eli Mercer. Alec’s dad has been mentioned before. Alec encouraged Kylie to go stay with him in the Season 1 finale due to tensions getting hot. We learned that Eric lives in Norfolk, but Kylie refused to go there.

TVLine says that we’ll meet Canada’s Eli in the Feb. 4 episode. That is just a tentative date as it will depend on the NBC schedule and the filming schedules at the time. This is just set as his first episode, which suggests that he will be back in the future.

What’s not clear is why Eli shows up. The last we left the crew, Rose had been taken by some strange men. Alec is sure to set out looking for her, but will that storyline take a whole season? Or could we see that come to a close, leading to Alec and Rose’s relationship getting to a point where it’s time for Rose to meet Alec’s dad?

The Irrational Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 10/9c on NBC.
