There are many shows reaching milestone birthdays in 2024. A lot of crime dramas are turning 5 this year, with their series premieres airing at some point in 2019.

There are usually some surprises. You may not realize how long they’ve been going for because of the waits between seasons, or they may have been canceled after one or two seasons and ended up being put to the back of your mind for now. Then there are others that you’ll still watch and just didn’t really consider how long they’ve been on the air.

We’re going through five of the crime dramas now. We’re trying to picks ones that you wouldn’t have considered watching before, or may have been on a list of ones to watch that you haven’t gotten around to yet.

Warrior

Technically it’s not a crime drama. It’s more of a martial arts drama, but it certainly includes a lot of crime. Warrior is set during the late 19th century at the height of the Tong Wars in Chinatown, San Francisco.

This is also the height of Chinese immigration into the country. Of course, the people of San Francisco are unhappy. The Chinese come in and are willing to work for less, and that’s making it harder on the Irish immigrants to find work. And I have to laugh at the irony of the Irish complaining about Chinese immigrants and claiming they’re American when they’re clearly from another country.

We follow the Irish and Americans attempt to make it harder for the Chinese. Then we follow the growing problems in Chinatown with the three main tongs in the area. There is murder, counterfeit money, drugs, and more throughout this series.

Warrior is on both Netflix and Max.

The Enemy Within

NBC brings a lot of great shows that just don’t seem to last. One of those was in 2019. The Enemy Within only lasted for one season, but it had so much potential!

It followed Erica Shepherd, one of the CIA’s best operatives until she was branded a traitor. She is now serving a life sentence in a Supermax prison when she learns that her daughter is in danger. She will do whatever it takes to save her daughter, and that means teaming up with FBI agent Will Keaton, a man whose life she destroyed when she became a traitor.

Of course, Keaton needs to figure out if he can even trust her. How do you trust someone who has already proven to be untrustworthy?

The Enemy Within is available to purchase on Amazon Instant Video, iTunes, Google Play, and more.

Prodigal Son

Prodigal Son was canceled abruptly after two seasons, and I’m still salty about that. The series is full of intriguing crimes, wonderful backstory, and excellent actors. After all, it’s Tom Payne and Michael Sheen in the lead roles.

Payne is the son of a serial killer, and he wants to do anything other than become his father. However, he has a brilliant mind, serious night terrors, and a lack of empathy for some people. He worries that he will become everything that he hates, and that’s why he stops at nothing to take the bad guys down.

However, he needs his father’s help with cases. You see, while he has a brilliant mind, his father has an even better one. Who better to know a serial killer than a serial killer?

Prodigal Son is available on The CW Seed and Max.

Criminal: UK

There are a few versions of Criminal, taking place in different countries. Criminal: UK premiered in 2019.

Each episode is a different story. In fact, there are different police officers throughout the series. And every episode takes place in the interview room and precinct of a specific police force. There are no scenes outside.

This involves a lot of psychology. The police need the potential criminals to confess to a crime. Those who are suspects need to remain calm and find a way to share their innocence. The question is whether they are innocent or guilty. Do the police have the right people, or is there more to the story?

Criminal: UK is available to stream on Netflix.

Traitors

Traitors is a miniseries set after World War II. Feef Symonds is a bold civil servant who is now stuck behind a desk in an office. Throughout the war, she was constantly looking for where the next threat would come from, and it doesn’t feel right that she’s now on desk duty.

Well, what happens when she’s approached by a U.S. agent with a task? This U.S. agent wants her to spy on her own country. As the Second World War ends, the threat of the Cold War is there. Feef realizes that she has the opportunity for drama and excitement.

She overlooks all the risks that are involved in taking on this task. She soon finds herself deeper in the middle of a Soviet conspiracy, but will she be able to find her way out?

Traitors is on Netflix.
