This isn’t set in the same world as the OG series. Instead, it looks like the original NBC series is just a TV show within the world. That’s based on a line in the initial trailer for the series, reminding us just how long the original series has been off the air.

What to expect in the Matlock series premiere

The first episode is going to introduce us to the various characters. Remember that this episode is made more for the networks than the audiences. You’ll want to give the show until at least the second episode. However, I have a feeling that Bates will draw us all right in.

It’s clear that Matty has some sort of secret. She’s even making it clear what she is up to. She shares that she has skills to get everywhere due to her age. People pretend that she’s not there, viewing her as some unassuming old woman. The problem is that she listens.

And it looks like she wants to return to the workforce for an ulterior motive. She’s telling everyone that she has a child to feed and a house to keep over her head, but she has something else going on. She wants to get access to old files. But why?

While the series premiere airs tonight, Sunday, Sept. 22, this is not the usual night for the series. Matlock will take a break and return on Thursdays in October, taking over the 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.
