3 ways Snowpiercer could end with the latest events
It seems that everyone important is in or near New Eden now in Snowpiercer. With just two episodes to go, let’s take a look at how things could end.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 8.
Yes, there are just two episodes of the entire series left. With the way things stand right now, arguably anything could happen. The question is whether the series wanted to end with hope and prosperity, or if it wanted to showcase a slightly darker ending.
Remember the ending to the movie that the series is based on. Snowpiercer crashed, killing almost everyone on board. Only two survived, and they were able to step outside without freezing to death. There had already been suggestions that the Earth was warming up again, hinting at survival, but we got the hint that it was up to two people to populate the Earth again.
Could the TV series end in a similar way? Here’s a look at how it could end based on current events.
Nima and the Animal Squad are killed in the Snowpiercer series finale
If the series wants to go a standard happy ending route, then it would mean killing off the Animal Squad and Nima. This would prevent the threat on New Eden, and allow everyone on both Big Alice and Snowpiercer to make choices of their own again: they could head back on Snowpiercer around the globe or they could come to New Eden.
It’s not clear how long this could last, though. Alex has pointed out that they seem to be in a bubble, and bubbles can and do burst. Is New Eden’s future on limited time? Isn’t that why Nima wants to release his chemical around the world?
Everyone gets back on Snowpiercer to follow Melanie’s timeline?
We could see that some people choose to remain in New Eden and take the risks there. However, we could also see Nima and the Animal Squad killed off and Melanie back in charge. She has the information from her research, so she could take over the entire mission to thaw the Earth.
This would now be on her timeline. She knows that with some work it could take five years or so. The problem is they need Nima to do that. It would suggest that Alex and Melanie somehow get the Animal Squad to follow them and hold Nima prisoner so that he perfects his chemical before releasing it.
Almost everyone could get on Snowpiercer, and they end up going back around the world. They can’t change the train back to the way it once was, but it will be a better environment without Milius in charge.
Nima and the Animal Squad succeed in their plan in the Snowpiercer finale
What if the show goes for a slightly darker ending? What is Nima succeeds? He could get Big Alice and New Eden could be destroyed. He could set off his compound, only for everything that Melanie said would happen to take place.
Is it possible that we could see the genuine end of the world? Maybe there are people in a silo somewhere who learn all about this, cutting us to decades in the future with them coming back out or even just finding out that life remains underground.
It is a dark ending, but this is a dystopian series. Not all fiction has to end in a positive way. I’m just not sure if that would work considering previous seasons of Snowpiercer.
