Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Professor T season 4, episode 4.
Professor T season 4, episode 4 opens with Dr. Goldberg going to a theater to see a play where an actress, Tanya, is stabbed with a prop knife and dies onstage. Phoebe, the actor who stabbed her, was the understudy and not meant to be onstage that night, and the props weren’t checked ahead of time. Francesca, Phoebe’s daughter, is found unconscious backstage after being knocked out with a bust of Shakespeare.
DC Highsmith goes to see Francesca in the hospital, but Francesca says she doesn’t remember Chloe, even though they met during the initial investigation, presumably having memory loss from her head injury. She begs Chloe to stay to guard her, worried she’ll be attacked again.
Chloe falls asleep outside the hospital room when Francesca’s father comes to visit, and, startled, Chloe attacks him. Chloe tells DCI Goswami that she has been studying for her detective exam, so she has not been sleeping. She gets reprimanded.
Dan finds out about Phoebe’s medical history. She was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in the past and sees Dr. Goldberg for therapy. Dr. Goldberg says the year before, Phoebe lost a role and got depressed, and Francesca got sent to boarding school when she was hospitalized. Jasper wonders if Francesca’s memory loss is fake. He goes to see her in the hospital, tests her memory, and confirms she is faking her memory loss.
Will Aunt Zelda and the Dean become more than friends this season on Professor T?
The Dean goes to see Zelda in Professor T, and she asks him why he stood her up when they were supposed to have met for mocktails. He says he felt ambushed at the time and apologizes. To make amends, Zelda asks him to pose for her photographs. They get close, take selfies, but then he leaves her abruptly again.
Ms. Snares meets Lynton, a scientist with the University, who developed a product in the US and wants to get it on the UK market. She gives him the DNA samples she took of Jasper and Wilfred, and he agrees to test them.
The team concludes that Phoebe killed Tanya because she was going to be given a role in a film that Phoebe wanted. Phoebe confesses to the crime, but Jasper doesn’t think she did it, saying he thinks Francesca was worried her mother would suffer another depressive episode if she lost the film role to Tanya, and then she would have to go back to boarding school.
When Francesca sees that her mom has been arrested for the crime she committed, Francesca admits to swapping the knives. She then injured herself so she wouldn’t be a suspect.
Dr. Goldberg meets Jasper for a drink. She says she’s been asked by the court to prepare a psychological report on Francesca. She’s worried she failed Francesca, but Jasper says she didn’t fail anyone. Dr. Goldberg tells Jasper that her husband moved out, but they have been estranged for three years. When they leave the restaurant, Jasper finds one of Aunt Zelda’s Tarot cards planted in his wallet—The Lovers.
Dan goes to see his dad, who found Dan’s old trumpet at his house. His dad says Lisa’s grave needed tidying, and wanted Dan to talk about Lisa’s death. Dan gets defensive and leaves.
