On the Professor T season 4 finale, Dan witnesses a man outside the restaurant get hit by a car, whose last words were a confession that he killed a man. The man who was hit was Jay Morgan, a second-year student at the university, whose cause of death was intracerebral hemorrhage. Also, his toxicology screen showed there was evidence of diuretics, which is a way to mask anabolic steroids. He was a rower for the university team.

Dan goes to see the rowing coach, Tina Northam, but she denies that there were steroids being used. Chloe finds out Tina was fired from the US Great Lakes rowing team after encouraging her rowers to use performance-enhancing drugs.

Dr. Goldberg signs off on Jasper's case on Professor T

Dr. Goldberg tells her mentor that she signed Jasper off with therapy with her. Her mentor thinks she has feelings for Jasper, but she denies it. She says that she could never get involved with a former patient.

Dan tells GSI Goswami that the pathology report showed elevated diuretics in Jay’s system, which could mask steroids. Steroids can cause mood swings and paranoia, which is why Jay may have thought he killed someone. DCI Goswami tells him there is not enough to investigate. Dan loses his cool and storms out of her office.

The pathologist’s report shows that Jay also had low proteins that aid in blood clotting, and he died of a hemorrhage. The team suspects that steroids can cause blood clots, so they probably added anticoagulants to prevent them.

Tina, the team captain, is questioned again and says she only gave her rowers natural supplements. She said Alex, the team captain, had to quit to get a job, and he and Jay fought over it.  Dan and Chloe go to Alex’s apartment to question him and find him dead in the woods.

Alex’s toxicology report also showed that he had low levels of clotting protein in his blood and low platelets, similar to what was found in Jay's toxicology screen.

Ms. Snares encourages the Professor to go to a talk given by Lyndon Collins about gene editing. Ms. Snares says Lyndon is trying to honor his brother, who was murdered, by doing this work, but the Professor is skeptical.

At the talk, Lydon Collins talks about gene therapy and is pushing a drug that would modulate the amygdala in a violent person’s brain, but it is still in trials at this stage. Jasper wants to see Lydon’s research materials, but he balks. Later, Lydon says his car was broken into, and his laptop and all his research data were stolen.

Jasper considers the drug trial and thinks Alex and Jay may have been two of Lydon’s research subjects, but Alex should never have been part of the trial, given the potential side effects and his low platelet count. When they confronted Lydon about the drug trial, Lyndon admitted they were research subjects, but only wanted to make the world a safer place, and never intended to hurt anyone.

Lisa is finally memorialized, and Dan and the Professor pay their respects on Professor T.

Dan goes to Lisa’s memorial. Jasper goes to play drums and takes off his gloves, encouraged by his drum tutor, while Dan and his father play trumpet. Dan finally makes his peace with her death.

Wilfred and Aunt Zelda get married, and Ms. Snares catches the bouquet. Adelaide sent a video message and said she was playing cupid when she asked Wilfred to water her plants because she knew Zelda would be there. Dr. Goldberg shows up at the reception and asks Jasper to call her Helena, and asks him to dance. She is thrilled when she sees he’s taken off his gloves.

Professor T is available to stream on PBS Masterpiece.
