It turns out that Mai Tao has a much deeper connection to the Blackdeer case than Dana knew. All is revealed in Revival season 1, episode 8.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Revival season 1, episode 8.
Throughout the first season of Revival, the Blackdeer case has loomed over Dana’s head. Well, it turns out that it wasn’t a failure. She just had a lot of people working against her. Well, one person in particular: Brent.
With the truth about him out, she’s able to get a few answers that she needs. That also means Jesse gets some much needed answers and closure.

What was the Blackdeer case about in Revival season 1, episode 8?
The new episode took us two years before Revival Day, which was when Rose disappeared when she was supposed to be getting a bus to Chicago. It quickly became clear to Dana that it was murder, and Jesse was the one with motive. Rose’s mom had signed over the tribal lands to Rose, but in the contract, it stated that Rose had to keep it as her permanent residence or she would forfeit it to the government. Jesse didn’t want that.
However, he didn’t do it. Dana knew that, and rather than send him down for something that he didn’t do, she helped him escape town.
He didn’t stay gone, though. He couldn’t stop wondering what happened to his daughter, but others were on the lookout. He knew Brent had something to do with it, but Brent was waiting for him, killing him as soon as he could.
That was on Revival Day, and Mai Tao, who had been in a relationship with Rose, was broken about the loss. So, it isn’t that surprising that Mai helped Jesse and worked with him to get answers about Revival Day and about Rose. She needed Dana to keep looking into it.

Em shares more about her murder
At the end of the previous episode, Em revealed that she knew where she died. She still doesn’t know who did it, but whoever did wore an animal mask and had a strange tattoo. We’ve seen that tattoo. It’s the one that’s being branded into Blaine’s followers.
That takes Dana on a journey to get to him. Maybe he had something to do with Rose’s disappearance. Maybe he had something to do with Revival Day, although that seems odd considering he wants to get rid of the Revivers. Of course, something could have gone wrong.
While she is out, Em stays with Mai, but that isn’t for long. She gets a call from her beau to meet him and get out of dodge. The Revivers are being tested on. Of course, that’s the trap that we all thought it would be. He’s only ever going to look out for himself.

Jesse gets the closure he needs in Revival
Meanwhile, Jesse follows a bright light to a car junkyard. It’s the same light that called Jordan out of the warehouse a couple of episodes ago, and it gets Jesse to a specific car. As he opens the trunk, he knows that he’s going to find the body of his daughter.
She was killed the night she was at the bus stop. Aaron had something to do with it, but who was he working with? That’s something we’ll need to wait for answers about.
As for Jesse, he is able to lay his daughter to rest, giving him the closure he needs. That strange alien creature shows up again, and Jesse makes it clear that it’s for him and he’s ready to go. Is Revival Day giving people a chance to finish up what they needed to do when they were alive, and then the creature allowing them to move on once they’ve accomplished it?
Whatever it is, it’s connected to Blaine. This is the creature that Blaine views as an angel for his followers. So, maybe Blaine did have something to do with Revival Day!
Revival airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on Syfy.
