The second season of The Hunting Party has quickly brought us a new villain to look into. It’s all about Lazarus, who is far more than she seems. The funny thing is, we already got a lot of backstory teases without even thinking about it.
During The Hunting Party season 2 episode 4, Bex learned a little more about who Lazarus was before her name change. She was a killer, and she was originally in the Pit. The plot thickens as we know she is Shane’s biological mother — and so far, only Bex seems to know all of that information, as Morales and Shane have separate pieces of the puzzle.
However, the clues of Lazarus were there in the name. We just happened to miss it.

The clue is in Lazarus’s name on The Hunting Party
Nobody seemed to comment on the name “Lazarus” at first, but it always stuck out to me. This is the man who came back from the dead in the Biblical story, so it always felt ominous.
Now, we know that Lazarus was in the Pit. Before she got there, she had thought to have been dead, taking her own life. Like so many other serial killers in the Pit, she “came back from the dead,” and therefore, she is Lazarus. She’s just the one who has taken that persona on fully, as she’s developed a new life outside of the Pit.
Lazarus is the only one to have “graduated” from the Pit, and after that, the new identity was created. How many people know this, and was this always the plan? It’s hard to say, but there is more to the name that could hint at a few things to come when The Hunting Party returns.

Is Lazarus the “first woman?”
Lazarus’s first name is Eve, which is another Biblical name, and it could connect to some things to come on The Hunting Party. After all, she is “the first woman,” and it’s clear that she is the first to graduate from the Pit.
Is there or was there meant to be an “Adam” out there? Is it possible that Adam and Eve were supposed to be the proof that something like the Pit works? That they could be put back into society without being a danger?
Of course, Lazarus is covering up some tracks. She doesn’t want her past to come up, so she has killed Dr. Dulles, proving that she’s not completely “fixed.” However, the truth is already coming out on The Hunting Party, but will Peck prevent the team from finding out more?
The Hunting Party returns on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 10/9c on NBC.
