Rudy can’t help but get involved in potentially lost causes in The Rainmaker season 1, episode 6. At least, he learns if he passed the bar or not.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Rainmaker season 1, episode 6.

At the end of The Rainmaker season 1, episode 5, Rudy got a rude awakening. After deciding to go to the police about the murder suspects, Bruiser decided to fire him. He was too emotional in the case, and that could lead to them losing.

However, Rudy isn’t going to stop working on this. He does need Dot to help him see that he can’t give up, but that’s not the only potentially lost cause he’s working on. Rudy realizes that he needs to protect Kelly.

Rudy finds a place for Kelly to hide out in The Rainmaker season 1, episode 6

It shouldn’t be that surprising to see Rudy focus on Kelly. After learning that she was being beaten by her husband, Rudy couldn’t help but need to protect her. The problem is he didn’t know how to do that while keeping himself safe. With her being released from the hospital, he knew that she couldn’t go home or to his apartment.

So, he turns to Prince for help, who had previously made it clear that he wouldn’t offer Rudy a loan. Helping people disappear is something that he can help with, but he doesn’t help directly with Kelly’s case. When Rudy says that he’s taking Kelly to his mom’s place, Prince disagrees with that idea. Kelly needs to go somewhere her husband won’t think of looking.

That takes Rudy to Dot, who is more than willing to welcome Kelly into her home. Dot can see that Rudy is a man who fights for what’s right. He has a fire in his belly, and he’s just needed a reminder of that.

Rudy gets great news about the bar

During the previous episode, Sarah learned that she passed the bar. Everyone got their results except for Rudy, which led to Rudy being worried in The Rainmaker season 1, episode 6. Well, it turns out that the delay was so that the bar could double check Rudy’s results.

He got the highest score in the last decade or so, and the bar wasn’t too certain that this was right. Of course, there needs to be checks on that, and that led to a letter being sent to his house with the great news. His mom had opened it by accident, but she let him read the letter before explaining what was in it.

I love this for Rudy, because it is one good thing in a string of bad. It also gives Rudy a bit more fire to take the next steps in the big case.

One of those is to meet with a friend in finance. That friend takes a look at insider trading possibilities in the hospital, which is great for the deposition.

Bruiser and co. finally get a win in The Rainmaker

After being halted at every step about the Tissue Committee, Rudy may have something that can help in the deposition. He shares that he has proof that the man in the deposition has sold all of his stock, and this happened just before Jackie and Pritcher were fired.

All Rudy needs to do is be as annoying as possible to get the man to utter the words Tissue Committee. There’s a threat of jail time due to insider trading, and there are lots of questions about what Jackie came to him about and what their meeting was about. The more Leo and Brad object, the more it’s clear Rudy is onto something.

And with that, the words Tissue Committee are uttered. The deposition is over. Every document involving the Tissue Committee needs to be handed over.

Something did stand out in the deposition, though. Jackie had apparently broken HIPAA rules on 15 counts, which was why she was supposedly fired. Wait, 15? As Bruiser, Rudy, and Deck go through the minutes of the Tissue Committee, they realize what this means. Donnie Ray was just one of 15 people killed in the hospital, and likely by the same homicidal nurse.

This is turning out to be a much bigger case than ever believed at first. It’s a huge win for Bruiser and her firm, but it could change everything about the case.

The Rainmaker airs on Fridays at 10/9c on USA Network.
