Amanda and Raffaele get their chance of appeal in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox season 1, episode 6. It explains how things turned around for them.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox season 1, episode 6.
After being found guilty of murder in the previous episode, Amanda Knox hit a low point. She feared that she would never get a chance of life, and it’s easy to see why she feared that so much. 26 years is a long time, especially when you continue to proclaim your innocence.
At first, it doesn’t feel like there is hope in the appeal. Then it comes down to one piece that gives Amanda hope that the appeal could go in her favor. There is a backward step, but there is a fighting spirit back.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox goes into the lead up to the appeal
We know how the appeal works out for Amanda and Raffaele based on historical events, but what about the lead up to that appeal. There’s a lot to cover at the start of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox season 1, episode 6, with Amanda’s lowest state.
She considers suicide in the bathroom, turning the showers high so that none of the guards can see through the steam. In the end, a vision of the reports that the papers will make lead to her not going through with it, but her mom can tell that she’s hitting the lowest part of the whole ordeal, and she’s worried about her.
So is her dad, who breaks down and starts crying as he realizes there is so little that he can do for his little girl. It’s a part of their lives where they all feel so helpless.

There is a bit of hope and light, though. Amanda gets a roommate, another American in the prison. It’s a kindness to Amanda, and the two end up becoming friends, with the roommate reading all of Amanda’s mail. It turns out that there were a lot of people who believed in Amanda’s innocence, and they wanted to help.
This is where the hope comes in. One person writes to her about how the police are often trained in coercion. Everything that’s described is something that Amanda went through, and she finally gets a hope that her appeal could go her way. She even gets her fighting spirit back, which her stepdad sees and is happy about.
When Amanda called Raffaele in the men’s prison, he isn’t as excited about it, as his dad said that they wouldn’t allow American experts into the Italian courtroom. However, there is something interesting that’s happened. Dr. Mignini has been found guilty of wiretapping and other offences. While he will still be allowed to be the prosecutor, there’s a mark against him.

The appeal date is set for Amanda and Raffaele
After going through the entire court case initially together, Amanda and Raffaele’s appeal will be together. It makes sense since the evidence in the appeal is tied to both of them.
This time, the judge makes it clear that none of the evidence from the previous case that wasn’t related to the actual events will be listened to, and that means no simulation. In The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, Amanda’s voiceover tells us that this means it’s a clean slate for her and Raffaele.
On top of that, the defense has DNA experts in to completely undermine the police findings. They go through everything that the police did wrong, and it’s clear that everything is collapsing on the prosecutors. It gets to the point where one of them even walks out.
This offers some hope, but we don’t get the answers of the appeal in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox episode 6. Instead, the episode ends with Amanda going to see the priest, who has become a dear friend to her. He does see the good in people, but I also think that he can tell when someone is guilty and needs to confess their sins and when someone needs his support in their innocence to keep the fight going.
We’ll just have to wait for the next episode to see what came after Amanda and Raffaele were acquitted the first time.
