The holiday season has come to an end, and that means the broadcast networks are getting back to some normalcy. The Will Trent season 3 premiere airs tomorrow night, Tuesday, Jan. 7, and here’s what to expect.

We know that there are some new faces coming into the series. Gina Rodriguez is one of them, and it looks like she could be around in the premiere episode. She’s certainly in the trailer for the season, which seems to focus on the two-part episode, which will air over two weeks.

Rodriguez will play a prosecutor, who clearly has a working relationship with Will Trent. They also seem to have some sort of personal relationship considering Will is more than happy to show her photos of Betty, and she wants to see those photos—although that could be a ploy to get the suspect to talk.

Will Trent has to return to the force in the Will Trent season 3 premiere

At the end of the second season, Will had to arrest Angie. The third season will pick up a year later, and we learn that Will has been MIA for six months. It looks like he up and left the force without telling anyone, and Faith is angry that he would do this. However, Will had a lot to deal with, especially considering he had to arrest the love of his life.

When Will is requested by a man being held in a house, the GBI has no choice but to track him down. And he chooses to return to work, but he won’t get his regular office back. He’ll need to take Faith’s old office now. Whatever the case is, it looks like it involves some old friends that Will needs to help save.

Will is a bit worse for wear in the trailer for the season 3 two-part premiere. It looks like he’s going to get into a couple of scraps before we get to see him clean shaven and back in his suit. He’ll eventually get back to business, though, and we can’t wait to see that. Of course, we also can’t wait to see Betty.

Meanwhile, Angie is out of prison, and she wants to get back on the police force. There’s a hearing to see if she is suitable for that. Will she land her old job back right away, or will she need to take some time to prove that she can be the best version of herself?

Take a look at the promo and synopsis for the Will Trent season 3 premiere:

"When two off-duty cops are wounded, the GBI must track down Special Agent Will Trent, who recently fled town to help solve the case; as the investigation unfolds, Will is drawn into his past to clear a friend's name amid rivalries and corruption."

Will Trent airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC. Catch up on Hulu.
