Will Trent has revealed the first look at season 4, but the trailer has us worrying about two major characters!
Will Trent fans enjoy the hit ABC mystery series starring Ramon Rodriguez in the titular role of the eccentric and genius investigator for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. From the innovative cases to the personal struggles of Will to his on/off relationship with cop Angie (Erika Christensen), the show has become a major hit.
The wait for Will Trent season 4 has been long, as ABC has once again decided to hold the series off for midseason. This was a good move in 2025, as it allowed season 3 to run with minimal interruption (due to the State of the Union Address), thus maintaining its momentum.
ABC has just announced its 2026 midseason schedule that confirms Will Trent returns on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 8/7c. They also showed the first trailer off, which promises the usual quirky fun, but the notable absence of two characters is worrisome to fans!
What’s happened to Ormewood and Amanda in Will Trent season 4?
The trailer itself is what you’d expect from the series, with Will at a tennis court, insisting he’s fine. That leads to a series of scenes showing Angie on the job of a burned-out car, Will and Faith checking in on a suspect, a dead body, and more.
There’s also Will running through a forest, pounding on someone in a rage, lying in a dark room and concluding with him saying “I’m fine” while his dog, Betty, barks in doubt.
It’s a nice teaser, but it also raises the big question for fans: Where are Amanda and Ormewood?

The Will Trent season 3 finale had the GBI doing battle with a terrorist group that invaded their headquarters and planned to unleash a deadly virus. In the main battle, Amanda was shot and badly wounded. The final scene had Ormewood collapsing at home, seemingly from his brain tumor.
The two being absent from this trailer is worrying. There’s no word on whether Jake McLaughlin or Sonja Sohn are leaving the series, so it’s possible both have survived. Depending on how long it’s been since the events of the finale, both Amanda and Ormewood are still recovering in the hospital and not ready for duty.
It can also simply be that neither has scenes required for the trailer, and the producers are simply teasing fans by keeping them off-screen for now. Yet it’s also concerning if either or even both characters died of their medical dangers or at least forced to retire.

The show might very well pull the rug out from viewers by revealing the fates of the pair in the premiere, which would dramatically shift the series. If anything can cause Will to be as enraged as the trailer shows, it's losing his captain or friend and would rock viewers.
Fans have a few months to wait for answers as the teaser only increases the mystery of the fates of those two characters and makes the wait for Season 4 of Will Trent even more agonizing!
Will Trent season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 8/7c on ABC.
