Nancy Drew EPs Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz talk a new iteration of the series
While at NYCC 2019, Nancy Drew EPs Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz discussed the new iteration of the iconic character and what to expect.
There have been many iterations of Nancy Drew over the years. Based on the books, we’ve had video games, movies, and various TV shows. The CW is making its own mark within the universe with Kennedy McMann playing the titular role. While at NYCC 2019, EPs Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz talked about the new iteration.
The interview was done before anybody had seen the pilot (except for those lucky enough to be at San Deigo Comic-Con 2019), but that didn’t stop the teases of the supernatural elements. Schwartz and Savage both made it clear that Horseshoe Bay is definitely haunted. This isn’t a Scooby-Doo mystery to solve.

We already know that some of the spirits aren’t happy. One made it clear that Nancy and the Drew Crew would have to find the dress. They didn’t know what that would mean until a spirit visited Nancy at home and she came across the bloody pink dress belonging to Lucy, who had died at Horseshoe Bay decades earlier.

Now it’s clear that Nancy’s father may have had something to do with it. However, Schwartz seems to him that her mother may have something to do with it too.
We also now know that everyone has their secrets. Those will be discovered more in later episodes, as these secrets are going to grow and affect Nancy’s findings when it comes to the latest murder mystery. However, it’s not all going to be about the characters’ secrets. Being grounded is important, especially when it comes to adding the supernatural elements.

Not all the secrets will be connected to the murder of Tiffany Hudson, even though it looks like they might be right now. Some of the characters just don’t want their pasts revealed, but we know that’s not possible in a world with our 19-year-old detective, right?
"“Unfortunately, if you have a secret around Nancy Drew, she’s going to find out.”— Stephanie Savage"
Naturally, there was also a discussion about the various female detectives over the years. Veronica Mars and Betty Cooper from Riverdale all have elements of Nancy Drew. Did the show take any inspiration from these characters as well as the original books? Check out the interview below to find out all:
