Doesn’t it sometimes feel like you can’t trust anyone in a TV crime drama? That’s the case with Eve in Prodigal Son. Is she one of The Surgeon’s mentees?

Let’s be honest. There are plenty of theories and speculations about various characters in Prodigal Son. One of those right now is about Eve, the woman who just seems to be gaining the trust of the Whitly family members. But can she be trusted?

I don’t trust anyone in a drama that we meet. Never take someone at face value, unless they’re set up to be the good guys (like the people Malcolm is working with at the NYPD, and even then sometimes I question them). Eve is one of the least trustworthy people on the series.

She’s managed to work her way into the Whitly family without a second glance. This is a family naturally distrustful of people after everything The Surgeon did, and yet everyone is taking her at face value.

When Jessica canceled an appointment with Eve, this woman just showed up at her door. And then she didn’t see all that surprised by Jessica’s demeanor. Okay, she told Malcolm that she was worried, but something seems a little off.

This woman is up to something, and it’s possible that she’s one of The Surgeon’s protégées. We know that he mentored people. Note that he never said that he only mentored one person. There are others out there who he has helped nurture, and considering Eve’s age and now her interest in the Whitly family, it seems likely that she is one of those protégées.

I’m even going to throw another theory out there. What if she is the woman in the trunk? Is it possible that she was groomed? Maybe she was locked away and suffered from Stockholm Syndrome. This would play into Malcolm’s expertise, as he starts to learn more about her—as he possibly starts to trust her.

Or she could just be someone fascinated by the Whitly family story. Is she a journalist fishing for a story or just some woman who could end up being a danger to all?

In short, I don’t trust Eve. I don’t think you should trust her, either. Besides, who names a character Eve if they don’t want you to think of Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden, the forbidden fruit, temptation, and all that…
