It’s that time of year where networks start to make some big decisions. The show we’re looking at today is NCIS? Will CBS renew NCIS for Season 18?

The networks have some big decisions to make in the coming months. Some decisions have already been settled, including Hawaii Five-0 ending after Season 10 and Chicago PD being renewed for three seasons. Today, our eyes are on NCIS and whether it will be renewed for Season 18 or not.

If you’d have asked me, I would have thought Hawaii Five-0 would have been renewed for Season 11. Considering its success on Fridays, it seemed to make sense. It looks like it’s the show that has decided to bring the series to an end rather than the network. Which leads to questions about NCIS.

Ratings say NCIS is safe

More from NCIS News

If we’re looking at the live ratings for NCIS Season 17, things look great. Despite a 10% drop in the demo and 6% drop in the audience compared to last season (which is about standard), the show remains the top performer for CBS. It would be nonsensical to cancel the series.

The only thing that I could see ending this series is the creators/actors. If Mark Harmon decides he’s ready to bring the series to an end, that’s going to be the decider. There is no series without Gibbs. It really is that simple.

Right now, there are no signs that anyone is ready to move on. I think the show would give us a heads up if it was going to wrap up. The only thing that could prevent that is talks of contracts.

Why hasn’t the series been renewed yet?

It’s not quite time for renewals to be announced by CBS just yet. The Hawaii Five-0 news was certainly a way to give us all a heads up that we’ll be saying goodbye to the Friday night team.

The renewal for NCIS Season 16 and Season 17 didn’t come until April of their respective years. Season 17 was announced on Apr. 19, 2019 and Season 16 was announced Apr. 13, 2018. So we’re looking at another month until we get the official word on the 18th season.

Each year, the renewal does rely on Mark Harmon and CBS signing a new deal. That’s likely going to be the case this year, too.
