Casting for The Big Sky is going strong. It now has its two lead females in the form of Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick Here’s all we know so far.

It may be pilot season, but ABC has already ordered one show to series, and we couldn’t be any more excited. The Big Sky is the PI drama we’re keeping an eye on, with some strong casting already happening. After just casting Ryan Phillippe in the lead male role, the pilot now has its two lead females. Welcome Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick to the series.

Winnick’s casting came at the end of February, where TVLine reported that she would take on the role of Jenny Hoyt. For those who don’t know the book series The Big Sky will be based on, Jenny is an ex-cop and wife of Cody Hoyt. Although, don’t expect to see a lot of on-screen romance between Winnick and Phillippe. The two characters have separated. That doesn’t mean they can’t get back together!

Meanwhile, Bunbury will play the main character of the book series, Cassie Dewell. She’s an ex-rodeo rider and now the junior partner at Hoyt and Dewell, with Cody Hoyt the senior partner.

If you thought it was only the “good guys” cast, wait until you find out who former Chicago PD actor, Brian Gerhaty will play. Yes, PD‘s Sean Roman will take on a role, but not one that you can root for. He’s taking on the role of Ronald Pergman, a long-haul truck driver who certainly has a dark side.

He may just come up in the case that Cassie and Jenny find themselves investigating. They learn that two sisters have been kidnapped while on a remote Montana highway. On the race to save the two women, they also learn that others have been taken. Can they prevent the killer from taking any more?

The Big Sky Season 1 is based on the first novel in the Cassie Dewell series by C.J. Box, titled The Highway. Box is one of the executive producers, along with David E. Kelley, Ross Fineman, Matthew Gross and Paul McGuigan. Guigan will also direct the pilot episode. John Carroll Lynch and Dedee Pfeiffer have also joined the cast as series regulars.
