10. MacGyver

Number of seasons: 7

Starring: Richard Dean Anderson, Dana Elcar, Bruce McGill

What it’s about: You’ll have seen the modern-day reboot, but it’s all about the classic MacGyver, starring Richard Dean Anderson. This is a must-watch, and all seven seasons are available to stream on CBS All Access.

More from TV Crime Dramas

MacGyver is just like the modern-day reboot. It’s about a secret agent who troubleshoots situations for the Phoenix Foundation. He will look for inventive ways to take care of a situation, which often means using some of the craziest plans that definitely get the job done.

One of the best things about the original series is that everything was vetted by consulting scientists. The ideas had to be able to work out, even if it was just theoretically. Of course, there’s a huge amount of luck that goes into it all.

9. Tommy

Number of seasons: 1 (so far)

Starring: Edie Falco, Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip

What it’s about: This is one of the newest TV crime dramas to make it to the list. Made for 2020’s political and social climate, Tommy is about the first female chief of police in LA. She’s from New York, so that is already up against her, but there are also many people who say that a woman can’t do her job. She’s about to prove them wrong.

At the same time, she’s focused on making LA a safer place. She will listen to women, knowing that they can be ignored because of their gender, and she will fight for LGBTQ+ rights. This is a series focused on showing what should be done because it’s right and not just because it’s always been the way.
