NCIS, SWAT, and more renewed for the 2020-2021 season by CBS

"In a Nutshell" -- As the NCIS team investigates the death of a Navy officer murdered the same way as his parents a decade ago, they stumble across a storage container filled with dollhouses that display recreations of murder scenes. Also, the team agrees to clean out their living spaces, but some have a harder time saying goodbye to their possessions than others, on NCIS, Tuesday, March 10 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. NCIS, SWAT, and more TV crime dramas are coming back for another season. CBS has confirmed the renewals of almost all its shows for 2020-2021.

NCISSWAT, and many more TV crime dramas live for another season on CBS. The Eye network has just confirmed the renewal of the majority of its shows for the 2020-2021 season.

The renewal of most of its lineup doesn’t really come as a surprise. After all, many of the shows are among the best on broadcast TV as a whole. Also, the coronavirus pandemic has stopped pilots from filming, so CBS will want to rely on shows that already have proven to do well compared to taking a risk on unknown shows.

However, the news is excellent for fans of the TV crime dramas on the network. All crime dramas but one that hadn’t already been canceled or confirmed ended have been renewed. Yes, that means SWAT Season 4 is definitely happening, the show that was in the most danger due to its low live ratings—honestly, this is a scheduling problem.

NCIS Season 18 is now officially confirmed, along with Seasons 12 and 7 of LA and New Orleans respectively. FBI and its spin-off FBI: Most Wanted will return, along with Magnum PIMacGyver, and Blue Bloods.

We don’t have a schedule for the next season just yet. We also don’t even know when the shows will return. Right now, filming can’t happen, but at least the writers can get to work remotely to be ready for when filming can resume. Many shows already have a few episodes ready due to having one or more episodes left to film when their productions were shut down in March.

There is one TV crime drama that has been canceled by CBS. According to TVLine, Tommy won’t come back for a second season. The series focused on the first female police chief in LA. While it picked up in later episodes, it just doesn’t look like it was strong enough against other shows. And CBS will still want to make room for some new shows in the 2020-2021 season.

The other cancellations have mostly been comedies. For me, the most surprising is NCIS‘s Pauley Perrette’s comedy series, Broke, which was the number one new comedy on the network.
