The Alienist: Angel of Darkness trailer is here and promises a gritty tale
If there’s one thing the first season of The Alienist didn’t shy away from, it was the grittiness and darkness of the time period. It looks like The Alienist: Angel of Darkness will follow the same promise judging by the trailer.
The first official trailer is out, and it doesn’t just promise more of the grittiness we loved from the first season. It promises far more Sara Howard. This time she’s stepped away from the police force and she’s opened her own detective agency. After seeing the flaws in the system during the first season, is that really all too surprising?

And just like the first season, we’re promised more of the provocative issues from the time. The role of women in society is one of them, as Sara is in a time when women wouldn’t run businesses. At least, not their own private detective firms.
If women were running businesses, they’d be those deemed “lady like.” We’re looking at seamstress or laundry services. If they were running businesses, most of them inherited them from dead husbands or fathers (if unmarried).
On top of that, we have the corruption of institutions, income inequality, and sensationalism. It doesn’t seem like we’ve come all too far in today’s world at times, does it?
What to expect on The Alienist: Angel of Darkness
With all that going on, it’s easy to overlook the case that Sara is called in on. She is called to help find Ana Linares, the infant daughter of the Spanish Consular. It’s a high-profile case, but one that the police aren’t interested in. One that the police are willing to sweep under the rug.
It sounds a lot like the first season. This time, Sara is bouncing into action right away. And she’s bringing Dr. Kreizler and John Moore onto the case with her. After all, they’ve helped solve a difficult case in the past, and she may need them this time as she heads down a path of deceit and murder. Someone is killing babies, but why?
