The Alienist: Angel of Darkness puts Kreizler out in the cold

Things are not looking good for Lazlo Kreizler on The Alienist: Angel of Darkness. After an unfortunate accident, he is under scrutiny and can no longer work as an alienist in New York for the time being.

Sara may have changed that. She needs Lazlo by her side, knowing that he sees things that nobody else does. Sure, so does Sara, but she also knows the strength in teamwork. This is a woman who is more than happy to give praise to others she knows deserves it. It’s what I love about her.

When asked if she would work on the new case, Sara had a couple of conditions. One of those was to get Kreizer reinstated.

It’s just not going to be that easy.

There’s still a board that has to decide

While she knows that her request is falling on the right ears, there are others to consider. Kreizler pointed out that the board still has the ultimate decision. And we know who is on that board.

Dr. Markoe would never be objective. He doesn’t have an objective bone in his body, and I don’t just say that because he’s Game of Thrones‘s Roose Bolton.

Oh no! This is a man who believes he is right and everyone else is wrong, and he feels threatened by Lazlo. The easiest option is to get rid of Lazlo from the field of alienism.

With hope, Sara’s request is heard and accepted. After all, the team needs Kreizler. Each member of the team plays his or her own part in solving these cases. They are nothing without each other, and they know it. This is something that makes them so strong. They accept that they can’t do it all and know when to rely on each others’ strengths. The egos are left at the door, even Kreizler’s.

One of the positives for Sara is that there is another alienist in town on The Alienist: Angel of Darkness. Lazlo has talked about the case with his “kindred spirit,” making him think in ways that he wouldn’t usually. We know in the first season he got things wrong slightly, narrowing his view on what he thought was right. Having someone else like him could prevent him from making the same mistake this time. And it offers some help should Kreizler not be able to practice again.

Of course, if Dr. Kreizler isn’t able to be an alienist in New York anymore, it closes the door on future seasons of The Alienist. Would the show really do that?

I have a feeling he’ll remain off the job until the finale, which is when he is needed to help wrap one last thing in the case up.
