Coroner Season 1 finale: The black dog is fully explained
The black dog was a sign of a trauma from Jenny’s past on Coroner Season 1
Since the start of Coroner, we’ve had one burning question. What was the deal with the black dog? The finale didn’t disappoint with its explanation.
At first, it looked like the black dog was a death omen. Then it looked like it was connected to the death of Jenny’s sister. It turns out it became a scapegoat for Katie’s death, coming back as a sign of the trauma Jenny has been bottling up.
Over the last few episodes, clues about Katie’s death had come up. Jenny’s dad kept telling her Katie tripped over the dog. As a punishment, he killed the dog. However, that wasn’t the truth after all.

During the finale, Jenny and McAvoy needed to work together to stop a serial killer. Dr. Peterson had managed to get a dangerous man locked away, but Jenny’s decision to reopen Peterson’s cases led to the serial killer being released. Unfortunately, it would take the death of Dr. Peterson to catch the guy.
While dealing with the case, Jenny saw a newspaper clipping of her sister’s death. It turns out the serial killer had given her it, showing that he would delve into her past since she was willing to delve into his. However, it opened up a world of trauma for Jenny.
It turned out that Katie hadn’t tripped over the dog. Katie had to have gone over the railing. Sure enough, Jenny had pushed her sister over the railing, although didn’t mean to do it. The two were fighting at the top and Jenny pushed Katie. Katie accidentally went over the railing and was killed in the fall.
To protect his living daughter, Jenny’s father came up with the story that Katie had tripped over the dog and fell down the stairs. He needed to help Jenny deal with the trauma, and the lie seemed better. Was it the right thing to do? Nobody can really answer that, and Jenny isn’t angry with her dad about the lie. She understands why he did it.
The dog from the past just kept coming back, a reminder of the past. Now that Jenny has faced the past, the dog should disappear.
Oh, and Jenny and McAvoy got their killer. Well, McAvoy shot the killer after he stabbed Jenny and tried to kill her. Case closed.
