Countdown season 1, episode 8 starts off intense, and ends up with a potential heartbreak. Volchek seems to be constantly ahead of the task force.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Countdown season 1, episode 8

With the death of Damon Drew in episode 3, it’s been clear that anything could happen in Countdown. However, do we really think that the series is going to kill off one of its leading men? That seems a little improbable considering statements about a potential Countdown season 2 and actors who could be involved.

However, the series is leaving us with a cliffhanger after an intense episode, which starts with the team learning that Volchek booby-trapped his own house at the end of the previous episode. It seems that nothing is going to stop Volchek.

One of the Gallagher trucks is spotted

Meachum is just about to tell Blythe about his tumor when Bell reveals that there’s something important to check out. A truck that could be one of the Gallagher vehicles has just pulled over at the side of the road and is being suspicious. So, Blythe and Meachum head out, with the bomb squad called in at the same time.

It turns out that there isn’t a bomb or any nuclear product in there, but there are cameras. This was all set up to test the response time. Volchek is getting a look at who is after him and what he is up again, and he gets a clear view of Meachum on one of the cameras. Sure, he already knew Meachum was working with the cops, but now he has that proof. He just needs to figure out who Meachum is.

Meachum and Oliveras almost have a thing in Countdown

At the end of the episode, Oliveras turns up at Meachum’s house, and he offers for her to stay the night. He will even sleep on the couch if that makes her more comfortable.

Oliveras doesn’t want something messy, and she knows that’s what Meachum will bring. After all, Meachum doesn’t have that much time left, so the idea of getting attached to him is out of the question. She points out that she isn’t Meachum’s ex-fiancée or her sister, and that does sting a little. It’s clear now that she realizes Meachum was pushing his ex-fiancée away on purpose because of the tumor.

There is a spark between them, though. To be honest, who wouldn’t have a spark with Jensen Ackles?

Shepherd’s sister comes to visit

Throughout the episode, Shepherd was distracted with phone calls from her sister. So, she decides to call her mom, and she finds out that Molly, her sister, is planning on coming to Los Angeles.

Naturally, Shepherd doesn’t want that to happen, but it’s not just because her sister is a mess. Los Angeles isn’t safe, and the job Shepherd is doing isn’t safe. This is the worst place for Molly to be right now. But Molly does what she wants.

So, Molly turns up and immediately wants to go out on the town. Shepherd makes it clear that that isn’t happening, and Molly is quick to point out what Shepherd used to be. Well, newsflash, people can change. They can grow up and become better people with their lives on track. There’s no shame in a messy past after that sort of change.

Molly is sure to cause problems for Shepherd, though. Why do I get the feeling that she’ll end up with Volchek in some way?

Is Blythe dead in Countdown?

The very end of the episode sees Astapov from the consulate finally decide to work with Blythe. Well, that’s what it seems, but it looks like it’s a trap.

Blythe comes across a dead body in the alley where he’s to meet with Astapov, and then Volchek shows up and stabs Blythe. When there are headlights, Volchek runs off, leaving the knife behind. Is this the end of Blythe? I doubt it, but it’s a great way to end the episode.
