Each episode of High Potential season 1 saw Morgan and the LAPD solve a crime. Even the cold case was solved within an episode. The same can’t be said for the Game Master case in High Potential season 2.
At the end of High Potential season 1, Morgan and the team faced their biggest adversary yet. It was someone with a mind like Morgan’s, leading to a lot of clues and hoops to jump through to, eventually, save Oz’s life.
While lives were saved, the case as a whole wasn’t solved, and it was clear that the Game Master would end up being a player in High Potential season 2. To make it more exciting, it’s going to take more than one episode to solve this mystery.

David Giuntoli will have a recurring role in High Potential season 2
As TVLine shared some photos of the characters in High Potential season 2, it also confirmed that David Giuntoli, who we saw at the end of the first season at the grocery store, will have a recurring role in High Potential season 2. We know from the card dropped in the bags that Giuntoli is the man who sent Morgan and the team on the mission and threatened Oz’s life. That means, he is the big mystery to solve in the second season.
A recurring role can be anything from two episodes to usually around 10 at the most. It means it’s an ongoing storyline, and all we know right now is that he’s playing the Game Master. He has no other name than that, but I don’t think we need it.
What it means is that this big mystery isn’t going to be solved in an episode. Some may have worried that the Game Master mystery would have been the big story of the High Potential season 2 premiere and wrapped quickly.
Why the Game Master mystery going longer is good for High Potential
With Game Master’s mystery set to be more than an episode, it makes things far more challenging for Morgan in High Potential season 2. We know she’s smart, and we know that she can remember a lot. However, she’s not perfect, and the idea of her solving a case every single episode is a little unbelievable, especially when she hasn’t figured out what happened to Roman after 15 years.
By having this mystery take longer to solve, it grounds Morgan a little more. This could also lead to her relying on other people spotting some of the clues she doesn’t. After all, in the High Potential season 1 finale, it was Daphne who figured there was something in the fonts of the clues left at crime scenes. We get to see that Morgan doesn’t always have the answers, and High Potential season 2 now has the chance to continue that further.
High Potential season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 10/9c on ABC.
