Not only is High Potential coming back this fall on ABC, but it might get more episodes to boot to continue the quirky mystery show. How long could High Potential season 2 be?
Mid-May is that magical time when the networks announce their fall TV schedules. ABC has joined suit with a few turns such as how both The Rookie and Will Trent will be delayed until 2026 when they can air new seasons without interruptions between episodes.
Thankfully, there will be mystery fun on Tuesdays on ABC as the freshman hit High Potential will be back for season 2! It will air at 10/9c on Tuesdays following Dancing With the Stars. Speaking to Deadline, Disney Television Group's president Craig Erwich praised the series, saying, “We have so much momentum going with that show, and I actually think it will perform even better next year.”
That’s a good sign for the series, which already garnered a loyal audience!

How many more episodes will High Potential season 2 get?
Some were surprised the first season was only 13 episodes, with its finale airing in February 2025. It had been ordered from a pilot in 2023, but the Hollywood strikes had ABC put it off until fall 2024. However, the real reasons for the short run were Olson’s commitments to her long-running FX comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and her recurring role on HBO’s Hacks.
Naturally, Olson will be back but her schedules will still mean she can't devote herself to a leading role on a network show as much as she or the producers may want. This might mean a couple of episodes where Morgan has less of a presence to free Olson up.
So season 2 won’t have the standard 20-22 episode run of most network shows. It should still get a couple of extra episodes, perhaps in the 16-18 range. That will take it through mid-season, where it will no doubt be paired with the returning The Rookie and Will Trent for a high-powered Tuesday crime drama block.
Thus, fans of High Potential will be rewarded for a long wait by an extended season 2 and let this quirky crime dramedy truly reach its potential as a hit show!

What is High Potential about?
A quick recap: High Potential is a remake of a hit French police series. It follows Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson), the cleaning lady of an LAPD police station, who shocks the cops by rearranging a murder board to solve a crime for them.
It turns out Morgan has an 160 IQ, making her a certifiable genius. Unfortunately, the side effect is that her mind is non-stop working, making it hard for her to balance work, raising her kids or relationships. Seeing her potential (pun intended), Captain Selena Soto (Judy Reyes) offers Morgan a job as a consultant.
Morgan agrees on the condition that the LAPD helps find her ex-boyfriend Roman, father of her teenage daughter Ava, who vanished years before. Paired with detective Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), Morgan uses her quirky mind to help crack cases.
The first season ended with Daniel finding clues to Roman’s location while Morgan was being targeted by a serial killer wanting to match wits against her. That was a good ending and season 2 can be better with more storylines.
