Throughout the first season of Matlock, we watched Matty try to hide why she really wanted a job at Jacobson and Moore. It turned out that her name wasn’t really Madeline Matlock, and she didn’t need to go back to work to support her grandson.
She and her husband were raising their grandson, but they weren’t poor in the slightest. Their daughter had died of a drug overdose, and Matty wanted to hold the law firm responsible after learning that they hid a study that could have taken opioids off the streets much sooner than they did. This led to her legally changing her name and setting up a fake work history to infiltrate as Madeline “Matty” Matlock.
Alfie’s biological father may have turned up at the house in Matlock
At the end of Matlock season 1, Matty got a shock of her life. A man turned up at her door, sharing that he thinks that he’s the biological father of Alfie, Matty’s grandson. Well, she let him into the house, and that’s where we left the family.
We’re sure to pick up with this reveal in the premiere episode. Alfie had hinted that he’d done something, and it’s likely that he managed to track his potential biological father down because of the email once sent to his grandfather. This could open up the chance of a custody battle with the new father, but I would prefer to see the adults work together.
Alfie has always been raised by his grandparents, and this man is just turning up out of the blue. It would be better for him — if he even is Alfie’s biological father — to slowly work his way into their lives and prove that he is a man to be trusted. Matty and Edwin aren’t exactly going to give Alfie up without a fight.
Matty needs to find out what happened to Olympia in Matlock season 2
When Matty answered the door, she expected Olympia to be there. Olympia had called Matty before going to the safe deposit box, and the two were supposed to regroup after not finding a money trail for the Brownstone. However, what Matty doesn’t know is that Olympia has the study but Julian has also caught her.
I don’t think Olympia is going to give into Julian’s wishes, but her life could be in danger. I can’t say what Julian would do if his ex-wife decided against working with him to continue hiding that study. However, I suspect that Julian is going to get his hands back on that study, and Olympia and Matty will need to regroup and figure out another way to take him down.
We’ll also need to see if their relationship can be repaired. They were becoming friends before Olympia realized that Matty had been lying to her, and Matty clearly wants to keep working on getting justice for her daughter, so can the two end up forming another bond?
Matlock will air on Thursdays at 9/8c on CBS in fall 2025.
