We have to start with some bad news. After an Imani-heavy episode that delved into her past a little more, Chicago PD is heading on a break. And this break is a long one.

There will be no more episodes of the One Chicago franchise in February 2026. This will end up being a good thing on the other side of the break, but it’s certainly hard waiting for the show to return. In some exciting news, we have a big episode to look forward to when the series does return.

The real reason Chicago PD is on a break

The lack of new episodes is completely expected. We already warned you that Chicago PD was about to be pulled from the NBC schedule, and it’s all thanks to the Winter Olympic Games. The Games officiallys tart on Friday, Feb. 6, and NBC will air coverage of them throughout the next two weeks.

Yes, there is a week at the end of February without Olympic coverage. A lot of NBC shows will return then, but not the One Chicago franchise. It will get another week off, and this is likely to help with scheduling.

By having three Wednesdays off in February, there are more episodes available to air on the other side. This helps to limit the need to have weeks off here and there in the runup to the May finale period, so it should help with consistency, and that’s something we can all agree is better for the series!

Get ready for a big Chicago PD episode when the show returns

There’s a huge episode when Chicago PD does return on Wednesday, March 4. In fact, you’ll need to make sure you tune in two hours earlier than you would to watch PD and watch for all three hours of the One Chicago block, even if you don’t usually do that.

It’s the One Chicago crossover event, which will see teams called out to an airfield when there’s an emergency situation. That situation looks like it will head to the hospital, as we see an explosion happen in the promo.

However, that’s not the exciting thing for Chicago PD fans. The promo for the new episode makes it clear that two former characters will return, and with some hope that brings us closure. Halstead and Upton will be back for the crossover, and I have to admit that the show did an excellent job of hiding their returns!

Chicago PD returns on Wednesday, March 4 with the One Chicago crossover event starting at 8/7c and running through to the 10/9c timeslot on NBC.
