The Law & Order shows have to take a week off due to real-life events. Why is that, and when will the three shows return? We have the details.

The Law & Order shows got an early jump on TV returning at midseason, premiering in mid-January. They’ve been on a good roll of new episodes to work in the ratings, and each show provides great drama and sharp storylines for viewers. That's good news for NBC trying to bring back viewers.

However, this week, Thursday, March 7, there will be a rerun of the Law & Order Season 23 premiere and no new episodes of Law & Order: SVU or Law & Order: Organized Crime. That’s because NBC, like all networks, will air the State of the Union address. Normally, on a Tuesday, the event is a Thursday this year as President Joe Biden addresses Congress on various issues.

So, the Law & Order shows will return on Thursday, March 14. That will be interesting as it’s the same night ABC finally returns with its regular Thursday night lineup, meaning Law & Order has a bit more competition than usual.

What’s coming when the Law & Order shows return?

All three shows will have some good episodes. The big one on Law & Order will be the debut of Tony Goldwyn as the new DA Nicholas Baxter. He’ll appear in “Balance of Power” as his presence and how Price and Maroun get used to their new boss affect a case of the murder of an investment banker.

Law & Order: SVU has “Probability of Doom” as the team tracks a serial killer who appears to be hunting child molesters. That has the unique hunt for someone who seems to be doing society a favor.

Finally, Law & Order: Organized Crime will have “Original Sin” as the crew has to rescue Stabler, who appears to have been captured by a killer. It’s notable for a guest-star turn by Dann Florek as Donald Cragen trying to help.

So, while the Law & Order shows are off for a week, they’ll be back soon with some great new action for fans.
