A new episode of Chicago PD isn't on tonight, but when will it return?

After the events of the last episode, we would love to see more Chicago PD right now. That’s not going to happen tonight, Wednesday, May 29. The show is now on a break.

The previous episode was a big one. The team needed to save Voight, and Upton realized that she couldn’t keep doing what she’s doing. It was time for her to move onto something bigger and better, because she does deserve more. It was the season finale, though, which is why the series is now on a break.

The good news is that it is just a break. Chicago PD Season 12 is officially happening, and now we just need to know when it will come back and who will replace Upton.

Chicago PD is coming back in fall 2024

We won’t need to wait until 2025 for Chicago PD. The Wednesday night One Chicago block is coming back to NBC in the fall. Chicago PD will end the night at 10 p.m. ET/PT as usual.

What we don’t have is any confirmed premiere dates. NBC only released its fall schedule. The premiere dates are usually announced in June or July of each year, so that’s what we’re expecting here. We are looking at around the middle toward the end of September 2024.

There have been no decisions made on new characters in the series. It did look like the show was setting up Petrovic joining the team as Upton left. She became a constant presence in previous episodes, and she worked well with everyone. She even took the steps to fight her alcoholism with the help of Upton. It’s possible that with everything she did (and the fact Voight sought her out to help with the serial killer in the first place) that Voight asks her to join the team.

We’ll be sure to keep an eye out on the summer news. That’s usually when new series regulars are announced; that's if there are going to be any.
