SWAT is ready to kick off its final season in a wild way! Get a sneak peek at an exciting scene from the Season 7 premiere!

For a couple of days last May, it appeared that SWAT wouldn't be coming back for Season 7. CBS elicited a firestorm by unexpectedly canceling the long-running hit despite good ratings. Shemar Moore even called out the network for canceling a show with such a good cast.

The backlash convinced CBS to backtrack the decision and renew SWAT for a seventh and final season. It was delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, but the 13-episode season is set to kick off this week.

It appears the show is following a trend of other TV series in taking a "time jump" to explain the long delay, so it takes place months after the Season 6 finale. A major move is that rather than focus on Hondo and Nichelle's wedding, it turns out the pair are already married.

There will be some changes as Anna Enger Ritch is now a regular as Zoe Powell, but Kenny Johnson and Alex Russell will only be recurring. So, with so many changes, how does Season 7 kick off?

The two-part season premiere has Hondo learning a fugitive who escaped him a decade ago is now in Mexico City. He takes Powell and Hicks with him to hunt the guy down, but it sounds like it's going to go badly in "The Promise."

"The team heads to Mexico City to retrieve a fugitive who slipped from Hondo's grasp 10 years ago. But when things go awry, old wounds are reopened and Hondo is once again on the killer's trail, desperate to fulfill a decade-old promise,"

The sneak peek shows Hondo chasing a suspect through the streets of Mexico City. It appears he and Nichelle may argue on the newlywed Hondo heading to a dangerous city on this hunt, but he needs to close out this chapter in his life.

There's no word yet on the subplots of the other team members coming up, but the showrunners are promising each will get their due for the final year. It looks like SWAT is ready to hit the ground running for its final season and give fans a great thrill to close out its run.
