Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for Unforgotten season 6, episode 5
In Unforgotten season 6, episode 5, Jess confronts Steve about the affair with Debbie and demands that he tell her the truth about everything. Steve admits to having other affairs. He says he has seen an online therapist, who says he has a sex addiction. He states he wants to start over, but Jess takes off her wedding ring and says she wants a divorce.
Sunny calls Leanne again and leaves another voicemail. Leanne calls him back, stating she wants to meet when he gets back into town.
DNA analysis shows that Asif’s DNA was on Marty’s sweatshirt when he died. Asif refuses to answer how it got there. Jess says some witnesses saw Asif assault Gerry because of Gerry's treatment of the Dowari family. Jess asked if he had assaulted Gerry three weeks later, and he again said no comment.
Taylor attacks a teacher at school and gets expelled. Juliet again begs her not to say anything to the police about the fight she and Gerry had the night he died. Jess asks Juliet if she can interview Taylor, and she refuses, saying she’s a vulnerable child.

Mel's world starts crumbling in Unforgotten in season 6, episode 5
Mel goes to see Pat in the hospital and tells him she is a liar and is not a good person. She says he deserves better than her and breaks up with him. She goes to church and sees Father Ryan, and he says it’s best if she doesn’t go to church there anymore because it’s a small town and she’s involved in a murder investigation.
Dot, Marty’s mom, is in the ICU after a barbiturate overdose. Pills were put in her drink, and Marty is the prime suspect.
Sunny asks if Mel lied about the nature of her relationship with Gerry, citing the texts between them. She stated the relationship lasted for four years, and she panicked that she would be a suspect. She denies he ever hit her or blackmailed her. She said she now can’t remember how she found out about Gerry’s disappearance, and she denied ever meeting Juliet. He said they wanted to search her storage facility, but she said they needed a search warrant.
Mel gets fired from her job for moral turpitude because of her relationship with Father Ryan and the murder investigation.
A local policeman, who knows Mel, recommends to Sunny that he speaks to Father Ryan. Sunny goes to see Father Ryan and asks him why Mel moved to Ireland so quickly. He says Mel had a relationship with a married man and had a baby with him.

The team gets the warrant and finds a storage facility with Mel’s clothes in it, covered in Gerry’s blood. She is arrested under suspicion of murder. She tells Sunny she didn’t do it.
There was a man in a nursing home who saw someone throw something into the marsh on the night of Gerry’s death. He has a diary that might have the specific date that happened.
Juliet’s boss says they are going to suspend her since she is not accepting the early retirement option.
Juliet apologizes to Liz. She says the older you get, the harder it is to adapt to change, and she should have done better. Liz says it’s hard for them to get a degree, but then not find a job, and have student debt. Liz says they just want to be heard and doesn’t want Juliet to lose her job.
Marty goes to Juliet’s house and breaks in.
