It’s hard to imagine what would make a mother abduct her own children in the middle of a custody hearing. Burden of Truth shows one of the reasons, as the system is constantly working against Kodie. Here’s how to see the next stage of the story play out.
Kodie has taken her children. We knew that it was going to be her at the end of the previous episode. While Marlene did want her granddaughter True, she wasn’t interested in Madison. There’s no way Marlene would have abducted both of them. Only Kodie would have done something like that.

Hearing that she’ll have to wait about a year for the court case to continue was heartbreaking. She can’t be apart from her kids for that long, especially when she knows that all of this is because someone wants to make her life miserable for the sake of revenge.
Can Joanna win the case?
Despite Kodie’s actions, Joanna will still try to win the custody battle. To do that, she first needs to find Kodie before the province-wide Amber Alert is put out.
Usually, that Amber Alert would be put out as soon as a child is considered at risk. However, Owen may be able to help Joanna, giving her a little extra time to find Kodie before the Amber Alert is issued. After all, once the Amber Alert is issued, Kodie will find it much harder to prove that she’s capable of looking after her children!
Why would Owen be willing to help? He knows that Kodie’s family has something to do with all this. Even if it’s not Kodie’s direct family, he knows that someone against her or her family will be involved and Owen doesn’t want to see the children go into foster care.
